Deep Tissue Massage

Deep Tissue Massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.

Deep Tissue Massage is especially helpful for treating chronically tense and painful areas such as the low back, neck and shoulders. When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually bands of painful, rigid tissue (commonly known as knots) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments.   The tissues no longer move freely against or over each other and are ‘stuck’ together.  These knots can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Deep Tissue Massage safely breaks down knots to relieve pain and restore normal movement. Strokes are usually slow and the pressure is deep and concentrated on areas of tension and pain. The client may experience discomfort during a deep tissue session ( pain, while at the same time a sense of release), often described as “it hurts but it feels good.”  Care is always taken to work within the client’s tolerance level.

Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as:

  • Limited mobility (frozen shoulder)

  • Recovery from injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injury)

  • Repetitive strain injury (carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow)

  • Postural problems

  • Osteoarthritis pain

  • Muscle spasm or tension
